Camp Good News Kauai

Camp this year will be at the Makanalani campsite in Kilauea and will be July 15-19.

Camp Good News Kauai was founded in 1983 by Phil and Lynn Luttrell and others at Anahola Baptist Church with a desire to serve the youth of Kauai. As private school Administrators and Teachers at Olelo Christian Academy and Kauai Christian Academy for decades, they finally retired in 2011 after many years of service to God and his people.

With a desire to carry on the legacy, (and their own children’s insistence) Jimmy and Terrie Johnson decided to take over as Camp Coordinators in 2011. At the age of 15, Jimmy and Terrie met at Camp Fair Haven, a Christian summer camp in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia that they had attended since 1969. To this day, they still keep in touch with 3 of their Counselors from Camp Fair Haven. The Johnsons have lived on Kauai and attended Anahola Baptist Church since 1989 and have raised 2 of their children and have enjoyed time with many of your children. Terrie is a Physicianʻs Assistant at Kauai Medical Clinic and Jimmy helps people buy and sell their homes at RE/MAX Kauai. Jimmy also serves on the Kauai Christian Academy school board.

The Camp Directors for many years have been Brandon and Maymay Thomas from Waianae, Oahu. Each year Brandon and Maymay recruit and train a top-notch team of Counselors from Ma’ili Bible and Koolau Baptist school / church to invest in the youth of Kauai.
In addition, they take on Junior Counselors and train them with a focus on Work Ethic curriculum. The staff are not paid,
and they raise their own funds to come over to serve your children.
